Making Fantasy Football Logos

Do YOU SMELL WHAT THE ARSONIST IS COOKING!

The Royals have decided it was time to part ways with Friends In Low places. It was either loved or hated by fans. Garth Brooks’ hit song has served as the 6th inning sing-a-long since 2008. It began with Garth giving a video intro, which was recorded when he opened the Spring Center for 9 straight sold out shows in 2007. Garth gave it to the Royals and the fans of Kansas City as a token of appreciation for giving the country star a platform to promote his Teammates For Kids charity at Spring Break in 2004. For 6 years, the song was appropriate, acting as a soundtrack to the product on the field where the whiskey drowned and the beer chased our blues away. Good riddance to one of the most depressing eras in all of sports where 28 years of small market-excused, strike-ending, 100-loss team having, youth movement rebuild, lost an entire generation of fans.

Blame it all on my roots, I’m a Royals fan.

But like with any and all things Royals I am loyal to the core. Friends in Low Places shouldn’t be taken out to pasture. No, lets honor the song from time to time and continue to play it at the conclusion of the inevitable 6 (or ten) game home losing streak. Imagine the scene walking out of the K, head hung low after another loss, trying to remember where you parked your car and fans are singing to drown in their sorrows. Because, as Royals fans we’ve been there before and everything's all right, we'll just say goodnight, then show ourselves to the door.

Now fans have been given the task of deciding which out of all the head-scratching songs is the best. Each song will be placed in a bracket going head to head during every home game at the K finishing with the final 2 going head to head at the Yankees game. It's really laughable what some of the selections are and how they have anything to do with the Royals, baseball, Kansas City, or just fist-pumping good time having rock and roll. So many great songs were left off the list that would make better sing-a-long songs than Smash Mouth’s Rock Star.

Qualifying entry’s could have been any song that is from any of the following movies; Rocky, Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky 4, Karate Kid, Vision Quest, Top Gun, Back to the Future. How is Joe Esposito’s You’re the Best left off the list and Abba and KC & the Sunshine Band have entries? How is Sweet Caroline even nominated? Everyone knows that one belongs to the Yankees. It would be shocking if it made it out of the second round, Royals fans are smarter than that.

Of the 32 songs, only a couple of them are worthy to be nomination. I Won’t Back Down sounds like are behind a couple runs or making a pitching change with the bases loaded king of song. In 1999, the Royals were 64 and 97 not looking to party like its 1999. Twist and Shout is heard everywhere. Walk of Life had a cool video about baseball bloopers in 1985, but not really easiest song to sing-a-long to.

The song should have meaning relevant to what the type of product the team is trying to present to the fans. Today’s Royals are a young and hungry group that the fans can get behind and support and a good song is a welcome companion to that success.

We have local hip-hop star Tech N9ne right in our back-yard. What better way for Tech to show his city some love than to write a song about the Royals to play during the 6th. Of course it’s no secret there is a lot of talk of Lorde’s international smash hit, Royals being perhaps the only logical choice. Problem is, to get Lorde to agree to sell the rights to the song to be played would be very expensive. There also is the questionable lyrics that would need to be changed to cater to the PG-Rated ball park. Perhaps, the Royals can convince Lorde to Kansas Cityize the lyrics giving shout-outs to places around town. Gates, Oklahoma Joes, Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, etc. Maybe Boulevard Beer would flip the bill for years of priceless advertising is the lyrics were changed from Grey Goose to 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat.

It would be a shame the song that was inspired because of our greatest Royal, George Brett signing autographs in an old 1976 issue of National Geographic wasn’t even considered. This is was written for this team. This is our song.

Preparation

We are now in full preparation mode for our upcoming party. Thankfully, having beautiful new home, there aren't any odds and ends "fixer" type things we need to do. When we bought our house, in the back of our mind we wanted to have something that would allow us to throw some kicking parties for our friends. So it will definitely be a work in progress over the next several years. But for now, we are throwing all our extra money into furniture, paint, rugs, landscaping, accessories, etc, etc, etc....

We still are taking time out to have fun and live a little. We went to see The Killers on Saturday night. It was OK, I think I had higher expectations, but still was a good show.

RADON!

Hello, it's Steve. Here is the one and only public service annoucement you probably ever hear from me. Get your house checked for Radon. When we moved in two months ago, our inspector recommended to us to get our house checked for Radon since the Kansas City area was considered a Hot Spot for Radon gas. Radon is a bi-product of Uranium and can also be exerted if you have a lot of Granite in your house. We don't have a whole lot of Granite, but decided it would be a good idea to buy the $10 testing kit from Home Depot and mail it off to some testing lab in New Jersey. The test reults came back and we are off the charts for Radon in our basement. It is kind of scary since that is where we have been spending most of our time the past 2 months and since Radon poisoning is the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. We hired our inspector to come out and do a more scientific test and the results were the same. So now we have to pay to have a company drill a 4" pipe in the concrete slab and run it through the walls to the roof. The pipe has a fan on the top of it to draw the gas to atmosphere. So…go to Lowes and get your house tested for Radon!

In other news, we were treated with 4 inches of snow last Saturday. So naturally, we went sleding down the backside of Raintree Lake dam. Good times then....not so good times for the body the next few days to follow. Oh to be 18 again.

And here is a picture of the ACDC concert in Omaha, Nebraska. Thanks Murphy for the killer tickets!
